Melissa Kenihan

“My landscapes investigate the intricate patterns, structures and interrelationships of the natural world, as well as humanity’s place within it. I’m drawn to nature’s beauty, to the meaning of ‘place’ and to what connects us to the landscape.” — Melissa Kenihan

Melissa is a Melbourne-based artist living in St Kilda. Her work explores connection through nature, grounded in a strong sense of place. Each work begins with an intricate charcoal drawing, over which she applies thin oil glazes, gradually building layers of colour over the monochromatic surface. This process creates a subtle luminosity while retaining the fine details of the underlying drawing. Her practice is shaped by an ongoing curiosity that continues to inform and deepen her exploration of the landscape.

Melissa has been listed as a finalist in notable art prizes including the John Glover Prize, the John Leslie Art Prize and the Hadley’s Art Prize.
